Corporate responsibility

Local economic development

Operating a mine in South Africa comes with a substantial responsibility to the communities living in the mine area. The MPRDA requires mining companies to submit a social and labour plan for each awarded mining right to the Department of Mineral Resources which includes detailed plans for fostering local economic development in areas of sustainable economic activity outside of mining. Atlatsa works with local government and communities to ensure that the local people will ensure direct benefit through poverty alleviation projects and job creation.
